SpaceX is gearing up for its latest mission called Polaris Dawn, during which a crew of private astronauts will embark on a five-day journey into Earth’s radiation belts. The mission is set to take off this week from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida and will be the second trip to space for Jared Isaacman, the billionaire founder of Shift4 Payments. Polaris Dawn is part of a series of missions aimed at testing new technologies that can assist in SpaceX’s goal of human colonization of other planets. The crew will include two SpaceX engineers and a former Air Force pilot. The mission will involve reaching the highest orbit around Earth for a crewed mission, carrying out a spacewalk, and conducting various science experiments.
