How Betnijah Laney-Hamilton, a W.N.B.A. Star, Spends Her Sundays
This W.N.B.A. season marks the fourth for a player with the New York Liberty. It’s also the longest tenure for the 30-year-old guard-forward in her nine-year career. She played college basketball at Rutgers University and was selected by the Chicago Sky in the second round of the 2015 W.N.B.A. draft. After moving between teams, she joined the Liberty in 2021 and quickly became an integral part of the franchise. In her first season in New York, she was named to the All-Star team and helped the Liberty reach the W.N.B.A. finals for the first time since 2002. Despite embracing aspects of life in Brooklyn, she admits that she hasn’t taken the subway since moving there. In the off-season, she lives in Japan with her husband, who is a professional basketball player.
