A Personalized Brain Pacemaker for Parkinson's
·1 min
When a skateboard daredevil named Shawn Connolly was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, he noticed changes in his body. His right hand started to cup, and his balance and alignment became skewed. Recently, he participated in a study exploring a personalized approach to deep brain stimulation. The study found that this individualized approach, called adaptive deep brain stimulation, reduced the participants’ most bothersome Parkinson’s symptoms by half. The results were published in the journal Nature Medicine.
